Manslaughter charge
PA Auckland One of three men accused of murder yesterday had the charge reduced to manslaughter after an application in chambers before Mr Justice Chilwell in the High Court at Auckland. Lu Andrew Fruean, aged 22, a factory worker of Otara, had been charged with the murder of Neville Robert Paul Stirling, aged 23, at Ferguson Park, Mangere, on February 7.
Mr Justice Chilwell said the evidence was not'sufficient to support a charge of murder against Lu Fruean. Accordingly, he discharged Lu on that count. A charge of manslaughter was laid. Also’ before the Court are Valr George Key, aged ' 23, a process worker, of Mangere, and Lu’s brother, Ula Fruean, aged 26, unemployed, of Otara, who have denied murdering Mr Stirling.
