Planner tells of work backlog
A pile-up of work for the Paparua County Council’s town planning committee has resulted in a backlog of District Scheme changes which need attention.
At a town planning committee meeting last evening, the council’s town planner, Mr Robert Nixon, said continuing difficulty in processing work meant that applications, appeals, and inquiries from the public now had precedence. Delays in processing the applications had still been unavoidable, he said. The scheme change
backlog included rural subdivisions and house controls, a rural zoning review, performance standards for quarrying, signs and ordinances, and retailing from industrial
and other zones. Liaison meetings with other councils and boards was at an absolute minimum, and little or no research was being done on applications in scheme changes, he said. Mr Nixon will report to the council in September on the number of staff needed for the smooth running of its town planning.
