Stud career for Shannon
PA Levin The former top two-year-old, Shannon, will stand - at the newly formed Arete Farm stud near Levin. The horse’s Wairoa owner, Mr Rob Mulcaster, has completed negotiations and the son of Three Legs will stand alongside the imported sire, Wham, at a fee of $3500. Shannon was rated, alongside Precocious Lad, as the equal top-weighted colt on the 1985-86 Aus-tralia-New Zealand two-year-old classification with 57 kilograms. The only horse above them was the brilliant Sydney filly, Bounding Away. Thg big grey raced just
15 times for five wins and over $lOO,OOO in stakes. He was prepared at Woodville by Bruce Marsh. He was retired from racing last month after . suffering a tendon injury while in Brisbane preparing for the Fourex Cup. Shannon was bred by Mr Mulcaster from his Bally Royal mare, Ballydoyle, and comes from a family of big winners. Ballydoyle’s first foal, Chic Gold, was a good winner in Australia while her second foal, Shamrock, won 11 times including the Avondale and Hawke’s Bay Cups and the P. J. O’Shea Stakes in Brisbane. ?
