Mr and Mrs Small’s Adventure No. 1
By
SARAH SPENCER
aged eight of Kaiapoi
Mr Small was the tallest. He was 6>A inches high. Mrs Small was six inches high and here is where their adventure begins. It began in a mouse hole. Mrs Small was cooking tea on the outside
stove. A mouse came running. “Warn the neighbours, warn the neighbours,” panted the mouse. “Cat’s coming.” Mr and Mrs Small ran for the hole but, too late, saw the cat coming. They were near the table leg. Mr Small, who was a good climber, helped Mrs Small
up the table leg. The cat was swiping at the table.
Mr and Mrs Small dived into the sugar bowl and buried themselves in the sugar. After a while they heard lots of racket so Mrs Small peeked over the -top of the sugar bowl. She saw the cat chasing the Small mice.
“Mr Small, .come here and bring lots of sugar.” Mr and Mrs Small hoisted sugar at the cat. The cat gave a long whine and disappeared. Mr and Mrs Small slid down the table leg. The Smail mice said three cheers for Mr and Mrs Small, “Hooray, hooray, hooray!"
