Kerykeion favoured at Rangitikei Hunt

Special correspondent Wellington

Already a good winner on the course, Kerykeion should take a power of beating in the $lO,OOO Terrace Regency 10,000 (2600 m the first leg of the T.A.B. double at the Rangitikei Hunt Club’s meeting at Wanganui tomorrow. The seven-year-old will be having his first start since the recent Trentham meeting when he was seventh in the 1600 m Whyte Handicap and then second, promoted from third, in the Winter Oats. As well, Kerykeion has a good record on the track, which is often a prerequisite for doing well at Wanganui. He was a sprint winner earlier this season and all told has had three wins on the course. Stanley Frank, Kar Dan, Tamalane, Noble Bay, Chibuku, Corday and Danos

all have winning form on the track, while Irish Boe and Sophie’s Secret could prove to be troublesome. Irish Boe likes wet ground and was a last-start winner at Awapuni over 1600 m. Sophie’s Secret made ground for fourth at Awapuni in the same race. However, there is a chance that she will go to Te Rapa for the Taumarunui Cup. A last-start winner, Lindo Chaval, will be the top chance in the Ailchison Handicap, second leg of the T.A.B. double. The success came at the Eg-mont-Wanganui Hunt meeting on June 30.

The day’s highlight could prove to be the Ashford Park Hunt Cup which features the fine mare Rarni, which will be out to make amends for her mishap in the Riddiford Steeplechase at Trentham earlier this month.
