Chch poised to take squash trophy
Christchurch I is poised to collect the Wilson Shield when the second men’s open grade squash competition round ends next week.
The strong Christchurch side collected another 10 points against the bottomplaced Ashburton on Tuesday evening to stay six points clear of its closest rival, Lancaster Park. Next week Christchurch I will meet High School Old Boys and Park will play Sumner. There were a number of surprises in the women’s open grade, notably the win of Richmond W.M.C.’s No. 1, Sue Cassidy, over Toni bird
(Lancaster Park I), at Bl a full grade higher, and Sharyn Lane’s battling five-game win for Sumner over Donna Church (St Andrew’s). Another St Andrew’s player, Julie Quinn, continued her winning form since coming back from a knee operation. Quinn has a double cause for celebration this week, having announced her engagement to the former Canterbury champion, Paul McFadzien, last Saturday.
Thanks to the wins of Heather Lyon and Quinn in the bottom half of the order St Andrew’s shaded Sumner on a countback of games.
