RUBGY LEAGUE Balmain kept its third position in the Sydney rugby league premiership with a fortuitous 16-14 win over lllawarra last Monday night. It scored only one of the four tries in the game. The previous day ManlyWarringah had retained its over-all lead by beating South Sydney, 16-13, before a record Redfern Oval atendance of 23,257. Eastern Suburbs stayed second by beating Western Suburbs, 15-6. Brent Todd played strongly in Canberra’s 24-6 defeat of Penrith, but another Canberra international, Mai Meninga, suffered another serious arm injury and is not expected to play again this season. Mark Graham missed North Sydney’s narrow win over St George.
