Outward air fares from Fiji rise
NZPA-AAP Suva Outward fares on all international airlines operating from Fiji will rise 9 per cent today said a spokesman for Air Pacific last evening. He said the Fiji Administration had approved an application for the increase lodged by Air Pacific, Fiji’s international airline, on behalf of it and all other carriers flying out of Fiji. these include Qantas, Japan Air Lines and Canadian Airlines. Air New Zealand services have been suspended since an attempted hijack at Nandi Airport soon after the military coup in May.
The Air Pacific spokesman cited increased fuel and other costs plus the effect of devaluation as the reason for the fare rise. Under the new scale; an off-peak turn excursion ticket from Nandi to Sydney will cost sFiji4sB ($572.30) instead of sFiji42o ($525). In addition to passenger fares, cargo prices will rise 5 per cent from August 1, the spokesman said. Under special excursion fares introduced to attract tourists back to post-coup Fiji, Air Pacific and Qantas are offering SydneyNandi and return for sAust299.
