Port’s cargo increase
The Port of Lyttelton handled 1.7 million tonnes of cargo In the eight months ended May 31, 4 per cent more than for the same period in its last financial year. The largest single increase was in coal. It was 147,414 tonnes up on last year’s total. However, no more coal is expected through the port before September 30. The Coal Corporation said last week that it had no export orders for its coal and therefore would not be transporting it to Lyttelton in the meantime.
