Modern-day L.A. romance

Tom Huice, who was nominated for a bestactor Academy Award for the title role in “Amadeus,” plays a pizza deliv-ery-man in “Echo Park,” a modern-day romance set in Los Angeles which will start at the Academy tomorrow. Susan Dey plays a young woman for whom life is not easy. She is dreaming of a career as an actress, but her daily routine consists of working in a bar, looking after her young son and trying to make ends meet. Like so many living on the fringes of show business in Los Angeles, however, Dey does not give up easily. She finds a roommate, Huice, to help pay the rent and continues placing her ad in the local newspaper, “.. .leading lady available immediately.”

Huice soon proves to be a real find. Not only does he pay his share of the rent, he is also willing to look after her son and provide transportation with his pizza delivery van. His personal interest in Dey is less than appreciated at first, however, because she has her eye on the attractive bodybuilder from Australia who lives next door, played by Michael Bowen. Huice is writing poems which he puts to music while on his pizza delivery runs, while Bowen is obsessed by the idea of inventing a body-building machine that will transfer the magnetic power of the celebrities of this world to lesser mortals. The two young men have only one thing in common: they are both in love witjj Dey.
