Hopes fade
Hopes of finding 40 people missing after an overcrowded ferry sank in the Philippines were fading late yesterday as coastguards said the confinned death toll had risen to 13. The coastguard said 13 bodies had been recovered and the people still missing were presumed dead after the ferry split in two and sank skm from land between Negros and Siquijor islands. The other 134 people on board were rescued.—Dumaguete.
Big robbery
Armed robbers yesterday raided a safe deposit centre in London's wealthy Knightsbridge area and could have escaped with between £lO million ($27 million) and £2O million ($54 million) newspapers reported. The
police said the full value of the haul might never be known, as some people who used the boxes might prefer not to say wtai was in them. The centre, opposite Harrods department store, was thought to have been impregnable.—London.
Workers freed
Two United Nsfinns workers kidnapped Ifty Muslim rebels in She southern Philippines tevt been released, the military said yesterday. Anqy officers in the central Mindanao area where the two women were taken from their vehicle said they were released on Monday, but refused to say whether a ransom had been paid or the women had been harmed.—Manila.
