Thumbs Orf special guest on walk
By DAVID MCCARTHY Thumbs Orf, winner of the Grand National Steeplechase at Riccarton in 1980, will be a special guest at the scene of his former triumph on Sunday, August 2. Thumbs Orf will play a feature role in the “Walk the Course” promotion which proved popular with the public last year. Nearly 2000 people completed the walk around the Grand
National course, guided by the well-known race callers Reon Murtha and Rob Fielder and entertained by a roster of leading racing personalities. Thumbs Orf will be accompanied south by another former Riccarton stalwart, Glandovey, and the Canterbury Jockey Club also hope to have current stars such as Bymai and Crown Star on hand. “Last year’s pro-
gramme was a great success and we will be sticking close to the' same formula, though there will be alternative activities for the children,” said the C.J.C. secretary, Mr Dave Lloyd. Each visitor will again be given a .certificate to mark the occasion. Free raffles and other prizes will again be featured. The walk will again be held in the morning beginning at 11 a.m.
