Abortion big issue
Wellington reporter Candidates for Parliament have been called on to disclose their position on abortion and to respond to surveys on the issue. Ms Di Cleary, speaking for the Women’s National Abortion Action Campaign, said abortion was a big economic issue. Childbearing was probably the main cause of poverty in New Zealand and the future for low income families and women on their own was bleak economically. Unemployment was expected to increase. Most members of Parliament were refusing to answer surveys sent to them on abortion, she said. Voting was pointless if the voter could not discover the attitudes of the candidate. A
