Assault on landlords reported

Four assaults on landlords by tenants had been reported during June, the tenancy bond division of the Housing Corporation revealed. The division’s manager, Mr Philip Pigou, said that was an alarmingly high incidence. The division also said the greatest cause of tenancy terminations last month was rent arrears. They numbered 79 disputes out of a total of 128 terminations. The next greatest reason sought by landlords for termination was damage. In 22 cases tenants were evicted because of damage to property. Fifteen agreements were terminated through tenants abandoning the property, and two because of “quiet enjoyment." That is normally noise levels disturbing neighbours.
