Bail opposed

Bail was opposed for a man charged with possessing about 3kg of cannabis for sale or supply, when he appeared before Judge Erber in the District Court yesterday. Robert Neil Gowans, aged 27, a labourer, is charged with assaulting a person in circumstances which showed an intention to use a knife he had in his possession, unlawful possession of a knife, on the Main North Road, driving while disqualified, and driving with an excess blood alcohol level. He was remanded, without plea, to July 27. No-one was hurt in the incident. DEPOSITIONS On a charge of importing cannabis resin into New Zealand, William Burke Phillips was remanded to late August for depositions to be taken. Phillips, aged 21, a seaman (Mr E. Bedo), is alleged to have committed the offence at Auckland on June 9.
