N.Z. Derby to be worth $400,000
PA Auckland Next season’s New Zealand Derby has been boosted to $400,000 by the Troy Corporation. The race will be known as the Troy N.Z. Derby and Troy will sponsor the event for the next two years with a right of renewal. At $400,000 the stake is up $125,000 on last year. Troy has thoroughbred investments worth over $3O million and director, Rod Martin, says major stakes boost the breeding industry. “With big stakes for the major races, buyers are willing to pay more for bloodstock. We’re delighted to become associated with our most prestigious classic race,” he said.
