Woolston cyclist triumphs
Sally Fraser, of the Woolston club, won the Mrs Pope’s two-day cycling tour in Christchurch during the week-end. Another Woolston cyclist, Gael Ashby, was second. There were 23 entries, some from as far afield as Auckland and Melbourne. An Australian, Kathryn Watt, second in the Australian individual pursuit recently, was the pre-race favourite. Watt performed well in the first stage but missed a break of Canterbury riders. However, by the end of the first day she was fourth behind Fraser, Ashby and Sue Hawes, and finished third.
