Howzat regains indoor cricket trophy

Howzat averaged its loss to I.C.A. earlier this season and snatched back the Lion Brown Challenge Shield in the Canterbury Indoor Cricket competition on Saturday evening. I.C.A. was never in the race, Howzat recording a resounding 95-36 win. The Howzat fielders made few mistakes, restricting the I.C.A. batsmen. Howzat opened its batting with a skilled performance by Gary Garden and Peter Kennedy, members of the New Zealand team, who set their team up for the convincing win with 30 runs. At Papanui, Sockburn won

comfortably against the home side, 62-48. More than half the Sockburn runs were scored by Barry Nelson and Peter Wilson. Sockburn took wickets at vital times. I.C.A. narrowly bet Howzat in the women’s competition, 120-110. I.C.A. lifted its fielding performance to hold the middle order batsmen to 24, in spite of an excellent 41-run opening partnership by Ingrid Bevin and Angela Beijin. Results.— Men: Howzat 95 (P.
