Painting fetches $l0,000
A painting by Olivia Spencer-Bower fetched an “exceptional” $lO,OOO at an auction of her paintings in Christchurch yesterday. The painting, “Willy Lot’s Cottage,” dated 1964, fetched one of the highest prices for the New Zealand artist’s paintings. It was one of 11 of her paintings, which were sold on behalf of the Olivia Spencer-Bower Foundation by the auctioneers, N. H. McCrostie and Company.
More than 150 enthusiastic bidders paid between $4750 and $lO,OOO for the water-colours. They will be on exhibition at the C.S.A. Gallery until Sunday. The Olivia SpencerBower Foundation was formed after her death to raise money to help send young aspiring artists overseas.
