Maramarua candidates

PA Auckland The Labour and Democratic parties have selected candidates to contest the new Maramarua seat in the General Election.

Labour has picked Mr Brian Dent, aged 37, an orchard manager of Whangaparaoa, who contested the Rodney seat in 1984.

Mr Ron Gilberd, aged 56, a sales representative, of Tuakau, has been selected by the Democrats. He was unsuccessful for the then Social Credit Party in the old Rangiriri seat in 1978 and 1981 and Matamata three years ago.

Also contesting Maramarua will be the member of Parliament for Franklin and former Minister of Energy, Mr Bill Birch.
