Commercial still popular
The “Dear John” television commercial for BASF audio tapes has been voted the best commercial of the year by “Fair Go” watchers.
A “Fair Go” reporter, Kerre Woodham, said viewers were asked to send in their votes for the best : commercial, . and “Deaf Jonn” was :-the clear favourite.
Originally madein 1978, the commercial started re-screening last month after an absence of seven years. The advertisement features a young soldier in a war zone who receives a. tape in the post from his girlfriend, saying she has njn off with his brother. - • !
In 1980, the commercial won two international awards, the Gold Lion at the Cannes Film Festival, and a Clio at New York for excellence in advertising. In the same year the public voted it the most popular television commercial in New Zealand, giving it the Sunday News Award.
