Only one possible winner—Lions

By

ROBIN CHARTERIS

London correspondent

There is only one possible rugby World Cup winner in the eyes of four famous former Lions players: New Zealand. The Irish lock, Willie John Mcßride, the Scottish fullback, Andy Irvine, the former Welsh captain, Jeff Squire, and the English halfback, Nigel Melville, believe Wales, and then either Frances or Australia, have no chance at all of beating the rampaging All Blacks. Quoted in “The Times,” they pointed to the All Blacks’ ruthless style of play as being near-invinc-ible.

“The All Blacks have a ruthless, relentless purpose behind them, stemming from their total concentration during the course of a match,” said Mcßride.

Irvine said that New Zealand made so few errors that other sides had little chance. Said Squire, “New Zealand put their whole soul as well as body into their Play. “I’m sure that all 15 players will emigrate if they lose to Wales on Sunday.” The four Lions, who picked Australia to beat France, but narrowly, had no doubt of the victor in the Cup final: New Zealand. all the way.
