Sports funds for women ‘not fair share’
Women have not had a fair share of the public dollar in the sport and recreation fields, a public forum heard yesterday. The forum was held by the Hillary Commission for Recreation and Sport, which on April 1 replaced the Ministry of Sport and the Council of Recreation and Sport More than 100 people were at the meeting which was arranged so that commission members and sports and community groups could express their views. The commission’s chairman, Sir Ronald Scott, said there were many things to be dealt with if New Zealand was to move into the modern world of sport and recreation. Funding for women in-

The Mayor of Christchurch, Sir Hamish Hay, said that if guidelines for funding were going to change this year, people needed to know quickly. “Will arts groups still quality, for example?" he said.
