$50,000 stolen goods found
Stolen property valued about $50,000 was recovered from a house near Darfield early last evening.
Two persons fled across paddocks when the police arrived at the property, in the Greendale area, about 15km south-east of Darfield, about 5.30 p.m.
One later returned and was arrested on a charge of cultivating cannabis. Further charges are pending.
Goods recovered at the property included nine new colour televisions, a
video recorder, a stereo system, and a cannabis plant.
The police also found a stolen Bedford van, two Mk IV Cortinas, and a trailer. An engine from a Toyota Corolla was also found.
Constable Philip Lynch, of the Darfield police, said the engine was believed to have been taken from a Toyota Corolla dumped at the Darfield tip last Sunday. The car, which was partly burnt-out, was
taken to the dump on a trailer towed by a Cortina in poor condition. Residents helped the driver lift it off. A resident saw a car fitting the description given in “The Press” yesterday and followed it to the farmhouse, Constable Lynch said. The resident told the police and Constable Keith Fletcher and Constable Lynch drove to the house. The police still seek a man for questioning about the stolen goods.
