2150 dairy heifers for Venezuela
PA Tauranga A big shipment of stud cattle will leave Tauranga op June 20 for Venezuela. The 2150 dairy heifers, all pregnant, will come from Animal Enterprises farms to be loaded on to the livestock carrier, Kerry Express.
The export order is worth almost $5 million. It has been arranged by the New Zealand Export Import Corporation in conjunction with Animal Enterprises, Ltd, who have been responsible for breeding and preparation of the cattle especially to meet this order.
During the 25-day nonstop voyage, the cattle will eat 16,000 bales of hay, and 70 tonnes of concentrate, which will take two days to load.
The cattle will be collected from an Animal Enterprises quarantine farm near Matamata and trucked to Tauranga in a huge convoy, timed to arrive at the wharf at regular intervals.
In Venezuela, the heifers will go to about 20 dairy farms. The deal, which has the blessing, of the Venezuelan Government, is designed to improve the quality and quantity of local milk production.
