Responsibilities have been reshuffled in the National Opposition as a result of the death of Mr Bruce Townshend (Kaimai), and the pending retirement of Messrs Norman Jones (Invercargill) and Neil Austin (Bay of Islands). Mr Bill Birch (Frank-
lin) will add State ser-
vices to his labour and employment portfolios; j Mr Venn Young (Waito- ! tara) will add immigra--7 tion to his social welfare portfolio; Mr Tony Fried- ' lander (New Plymouth) will add works to his
provisional issues and regional development portfolios.
The senior Opposition Whip, Mr Don McKinnon (Rodney), will become spokesman on police, war pensions, and rehabilitation.
Mr Jones will remain associate spokesman on police and Mr Austin associate spokesman on lands. The Leader of the Opposition, Mr Bolger, said that because only a few days of House time remained in this Parliamentary session he did not intend to make any changes to National’s seating arrangements.
