Refueller still in hospital
NZPA-AAP Lautoka A man accused of hijacking an Air New Zealand jet at Nandi Airport on Tuesday was still in hospital yesterday with head injuries. The hospital authorities declined to give details of the condition or injuries
of Amraj Ali, aged 38, an airport refueller, of Nandi. They said he was under police guard. Ali would be taken to a police cell as soon as the hospital cleared him to be discharged, the police said. Ali was identified as the man who threatened to blow up an Air New Zealand jumbo jet on the tarmac of Nandi Airport unless leaders of last week’s coup d’etat released the abducted coalition Government. He also wanted the plane to fly him to Libya. He was subdued by a blow to the head with a whisky bottle wielded by Flight Engineer Graeme Walsh, one of the three crew left aboard the jet after 100 passengers and flight attendants left.
