Sam Neill to play Chamberlain?
NZPA Sydney The New Zealand actor, Sam Neill, will play Michael Chamberlain in a film about the Lindy Chamberlain murder trial, according to a report. The “Daily Telegraph’s” gossip columnist, Dorian Wild, said he had been told Neill had signed a contract for the role in a “hush-hush” deal. This latest revelation follows speculation in the Australian news media over the last month that the part of the New Zea-land-born Mrs Chamberlain would be played by the American Oscar-win-ning actress, Meryl Streep. According to Wild, Streep is due to arrive in Australia in September, by which time Neill, who has just completed promoting “The Umbrella Woman,” will have finished work on “Dead Calm,” which is being shot on the Barrier Reef. Meanwhile, the independent Hollywood-based organisation, Cannon Films, said it would finance the motion picture’s sAustls million ($lB million) budget.
Golan, of
Cannon, said filming would begin in Australia on September 30. The film, to be directed by an Australian, Fred Schepisi, will be based on the best-selling book, “Evil Angels,” by the Australian author, John Bryson.
