Red meat promotion

People are not eating red meat as much as they used to, and the Red Meat Promotion Council is trying to do something about it "Everybody else promotes their products, so it’s time we did too,” said the council’s general manager, Mrs Robyn Cameron. “Red meat has suffered through neglect, so we’re launching a full promotional campaign. People need to be reassured red meat is good

for them, and should be part of a balanced, healthy diet” The campaign will aim at educating everyone from the fanner to the consumer. “We’re aiming at improving the general quality and presentation of meat in New Zealand," said Mrs Cameron. "We want the right sort of animals to be bred — with lean and heavy carcases — and we want retailers to trim the. meat neatly.

“It’s important the meat is presented well, and that people see it as being something which can be easily prepared and quickly cooked. "There are so many products available which are packaged and ready to go, that unless red meat can meet people’s demands, it will decline even further.”

Mrs Cameron said, however, she thought consumers were loyal to beef and lamb.
