Heart appeal
About $24,000 has been raised in an appeal to send Mrs Adrienne Mackwell, of Diamond Harbour, to Sydney for a heart transplant. Mr Lawson Little, the appeal’s publicity officer, said yesterday that the total raised was now $24,390. The appeal’s organiser, the Christchurch West and Lyttelton Rotary clubs, had also been given 5000 native trees to sell and two orchards of apples. “We are now trying to organise the picking and selling of those,” he said. Earlier this week, the organisers were given 20 dozen eggs, said Mr Little. “We are going to bake and have a cake stall at the Lincoln Road supermarket on Saturday morning. We hope to have $lOOO worth of cakes to sell.”
