Hart to approach Cup players

Hart Aotearoa will approach the French and Scottish national rugby teams in Christchurch this week to ask players for signed assurances that they will not be part of any group that tours South Africa after the rugby World Cup. The teams are in Christchurch for a World Cup match to be played on Saturday. “Many of the World Cup sides, including New Zealand, Scottish and French teams, * have players who have broken

the international sports boycott of apartheid South Africa and yet are still chosen to represent their countries as part of a national team,” said a spokesman for Hart Aotearoa, in’ Christchurch, Ms Suzanne Robins. “By approaching players and asking them for individual assurances, we are making them take responsibility for their own actions. We hope they will be responsible enough not to play with apartheid teams,” she said.
