Canty hockey team
By
KEVIN TUTTY
The return of Andy Innes (Harewood) after an absence of three years, and the inclusion of three new caps — Tim Harvey, and Craig Mcßobb (Pegasus) and Rob Pentecost (High School Old Boys) — are the features of the, Canterbury A hockey team to play in the Post Bank Champions tournament at Porritt Park over Queen’s Birthday Weekend.
The team named by the Canterbury selectorcoach, Ewen Holstein, is largely predictable, although two young Pegasus players, Scott Hobson and Greg Clark, must have been within a hair's breadth of inclusion. '
Clark especially has been in impressive form at centre forward for his club, and is quickly developing into a forward feared by all club defences. He has accelera-; tion, good control, and a hunger for goals.
It would have been a close decision between Clark and the Redcliffs centre forward, Richard Schoeman, who probably retained his place in the team because of an improvement in his stickwork this season. In the last couple of weeks he has also regained his devastating goal-scoring ability which deserted him early in the season. The other players eliminated from a squad of 19 named earlier in the season by Mr Holstein were David Grundy and Gary Hodder. Grundy was a member of the Canterbury A team last season, but has not been able to recapture his form of a year ago. Hodder was not seriously considered for the team because of university commitments. ’ David .Penfold, the likely centre half, is under an injury cloud and may withdraw before the tournament. He has been troubled by a back injury for several weeks. The Canterbury team Is: Dave Stuthridge, Pentecost; Robin Wilson (captain), Mark Tynan, Harvey, Penfold, Greg Pierce (vice-captain),. Innes; John Radovonich, Mark Burtt, Schoeman, Chris Leslie, lan Rlach, Peter Tynan, Mcßobb.
