Man makes chop for wife

By

ROBIN CHARTERIS

in London

A Southampton man sliced off two of his fingers because he felt guilty about the way he had treated his wife.

A martial arts expert, Nick Simpson-Hall, aged 35, later claimed it was part of an ancient Japanese Samurai ritual. He sent one of the fingers to his wife, Sunny, with a letter begging her to forgive him When she refused, he

barricaded himself in a bedroom and threatened to commit hara-kiri by plunging a knife into his stomach.

He told police, who evenutally overpowered him, “It was a matter of honour. It was no good saying I was sorry. I had to prove it.” Sunny has now accepted her husband’s apologies. “I suppose I’ll have to give him another chance,” she said.
