Westland forests

Sir,—Stan Hemsley (May 13) has come out with what I must assume are more Upton-type figures — S96M from tourism! This may be the figure for the whole country, not the Coast. He states that tourism on the Coast earns more than forestry. True, because he and his trendy-Lefty friends have virtually stopped milling on the Coast and, I suspect, they are about to do the same thing to mining. He quotes figures from 1983-84 on fishing,

but forgets to quote figures for 1986-87 after I.T.Q.S. I note with interest that he has not meri<£ : tioned my challenge to speak to a public meeting of South Westland people. He has likened me to a screeching kea. That’s marvellous; what a beautiful bird to be likened to.—Yours, etc., JACKIE GRANT. Moana, May 13, 1987.
