Market approach
The National Party spokesman on education, Miss Ruth Richardson, continued her campaign for a market approach to education when she spoke at the Secondary School Boards Association southern region conference yesterday. Miss Richardson said that In business the factors looked for would be quality, performance, enterprise, and accountability for results. “The same should apply to education,” she said. Schools should be able to compete for pupils, said
Miss . Richardson. She stopped short of saying that under a National Government the . eonlng system for State secondary schools would be abolished. Teacher performance should be carefully monitored, Miss Richardson said. She also said that educational establishments should have more control over their resources and funding, citing the recent report on technical .Institutes which had recommended that they break away from Education Department control.
