Drink-driving charge admitted
PA Wellington A former All Black and rugby commentator, Norman Leslie Wilson pleaded guilty in the District Court at Upper Hutt to a charge of drinking and driving. Wilson, aged 64, retired, of Featherston, was convicted and fined $4OO, plus costs, and disqualified from driving for nine months. Sergeant Grant Henderson said that at 11.10 p.m. on March 13 Wilson was seen by the police driving slowly and erratically along Somme Road, Trentham. He was taken to Upper Hutt Police Station and a blood test showed 87 mil-
ligrammes of alcohol per 100 millitres of blood. Counsel Mr Brendan McDonnell, told the Court that the accused had been playing golf and had had a few drinks with friends. He was surprised to find that he was over the limit because he had taken care not to drink too much. He was driving slowly at the time because he was unfamiliar with that road and there were roadworks. Mr McDonnell said that when Wilson appeared before the Court on a similar charge in 1977 he vowed that he would never again appear in court, so he was very surprised that he had gone over the limit.
