School rampage
Terrified children fled from school after a man armed with a rifle, handgun and machete rampaged through classrooms. Earlier, he had fired several rounds at the police after taking a motor-cycle from a shop. The gunman was tracked to the school where he burst into a classroom, a common room and the library. A senior detective who went into Kirkley High School, near Lowestoft, Suffolk, persuaded the gunman to give himself up after about an hour. —London.
