Egypt orders N.Z. lamb

PA' Wellington New Zealand has won the tender to provide 2000 tonnes of lamb to Egypt for the Biram Festival in early August, the Meat Industry Association said. The festival is a Muslim religious occasion, tor which sheepmeat tenders were sought world-wide. The contract will be coordinated and managed Sthe Meat Marketing rporation, a group of exporters set up to handle single-buyer contracts. The Auckland-based exporter, Producer Meats, Ltd, has acted as the M.M.C/s agent for the successful sale. From the meat industry’s point of view the sale was a welcome. one because the Egyptians considered factors other than price, such as New Zealand’s reputation for quality product and the ability to produce and deliver to a tight schedule, said the association’s secretary, Mr Peter Blomfield. While the Biram Festival contract was not a large one in terms of New Zealand’s production, it was good news for the industry, Mr Blomfield said. The meat will be loaded in early June to arrive in time for the festival.
