Airfares could drop if demand increases
PA Auckland 2 Continental Airlines’ increase in passenger capacity into New Zealand, now expected to take effect from June 1, could lead to a further reduc-.-tion of air fares. The American airline’s 40 per cent. increases in capacity — by replacing
most of its DCIO services with Boeing 747 s — was to have begun on Sunday. Operational problems have, however, delayed this until June. The airline industry expected Continental to lower fares about 8100 in an attempt to fill the extra seats it would have available.
