Granny Apple pick of the bunch

Granny Apple (B. Wall, M. Field), and Athenea (R. Forward), won their

respective division championships in the Banks Peninsula Cruising Club’s summer racing series sailed from the club’s headquarters at Lyttelton.

Granny Apple jointly skippered by the club commodore, Brian Wall, and Malcolm Field, won the first division with consistent sailing throughout the season ‘on a time correction factor of 0.888. It also had one line honours win, and won the 1.0. R. series. The line honours series went to Southern Fun (McMillin) with 15 wins on a t.c.f. of 0.951. The heaviest handicap yacht in the fleet, it finished in second place 47 points behind Granny Apple.

addition to the harbour series. Vamoos which moved down from the first division last season won the line honours series with five wins. In the cruising division Wind Child (D. Johnstone) with a t.c.f. of 0.636 sailed consistently into second and third places to win by a narrow margin of eight points from Southern Huntress (J. Sinclair) who recorded the most line honours.
