Leg broken for 48 years
By ROBIN CHARTERIS in London A Sheffield publician, Vernon Hookway, has been hobbling about on a broken leg — for the last 48 years. Doctors cracked the mystery of his constant pain after Mr Hookway, aged 65, asked for an Xray. He was 17 when his right leg was broken in 16 places as he came off a motor-cycle driven by a friend who was killed.
Mr Hookway has walked with a limp since. He just thought the leg had healed badly.
