Jobs harder to find for black graduates
NZPA-Reuter London Black graduates in Britain have greater problems in finding a job than their white counterparts, a Government commission report said. The research report, published by the Commission for Racial Equality, examined the professional careers of about 4000 graduates who had been awarded degrees at polytechnics, colleges and higher education institutions in 1982. Twelve months later, less than half of the ethnic minority graduates were in full time employment, compared with 70 per cent of white graduates, the report said. The C.R.E. chairman Peter Newsam, calling the
findings disturbing, .said “There is a lesson here for anyone who advises students or has responsibility for helping them find employment.” The C.R.E. was set up by the Government in 1976 to work towards the elimination of racial discrimination and promote equal opportunity for all races.
