Cook confirms squash rating

Linwood’s Sarah Cook confirmed her top seeding for the girls’ under-13 age group when the Barclays Uj North Island junior k squash championships . t . were held at Titirangi 4 during the week-end. Cook beat her opponent, ■Z Adrienne Herewini - (Rotorua), in straight games, 9-4, 9-1, 9-4. Another member of the r Canterbury contingent to ’ reach the finals was Phil_c lipa Beams (Lancaster Z Park), but she was

beaten, 9-5, 8-10, 9-5, 9-6, but the top-seeded Nita Pearson (Kawaroa Park). In the under-19 boys’ section Michael Penman (Lancaster Park) got as far as the semi-finals, where he was toppled by Dean Dryden (College Rifles), 1-9, 9-6, 9-0, 9-0. Dryden went on to lose to Glen Wilson (Royal Oak), aged 16, in four games in the final. Narie Pearson (Titirangi) beat Angela Toal (Hamilton), 9-3, 9-0, 9-2,

in the under-19 ’ girls’ final.

■ Both Tristan Franklin (Mount Pleasant) and Petra Hibbs (Greymouth) were eliminated in the semi-finals by the eventual winner. Franklin, in the boys’ under-17 group, was beaten, 3-1, by Andrew Clarke (North Shore) and Hibbs lost to R. Guppy (Levin) in the girls’ under-15 group, also in four games.
