Squash Viggers collects fourth crown

Carolyn Viggers scored her fourth tournament win of the season when she beat Freda Walker in the women’s final of the Wang Marist open squash tournament on Sunday. Viggers won in three games but this did not give full testimony to the spirited opposition of Walker. She played some lovely, controlled touch shots and had the top seed fully stretched throughout ' . It was the power of Viggers that was the deciding factor. She did not allow Walker many opportunities at the front of the court to play her short game. Although beaten in the final Walker had the satisfaction of beating the No. 2 seed, Justine Marriott in the semifinals. This reversed the result of their last three tournament encounters.

Predictably, the men’s open title went to Craig Hibbert. He was the only A grade player in the draw and had too much skill for John Christensen in the final. Results:—
