The first successful hot air balloon crossing of the Atlantic is to be attempted next month by the head of the Virgin recording company, Mr Richard Branson, and a high-altitude expert, Mr Per Lindstrand. Mr Branson, and Mr Lindstrand (right), will spend up to 100 hours in a tiny 2.4-metre diameter capsule carried by the world’s largest balloon, called the Virgin Atlantic Flyer.
