Rugby tour talk
Sir, — So, the Prime Minister does not believe what the Rugby Union says. I have news for him. There are thousands of us out here who do not believe what he says. With his Government’s record of broken promises and misleading statements, his holier-than-thou attitude is sickening. — Yours,, etc., L. ANDERSON. Mdy 11, 1987.
Sir, — The Prime Minister dances once again’on to the TV stage to address his press conference on the subject of the World Cup. He is to remain away from the World Cup rugby matches because he does not believe that the New Zealand Rugby Union knows nothing of a second rebel tour of South Africa. His principles did not persuade him to stay aloof from a Lancaster Park test match between New Zealand and France shortly before the last General Election. The issue of French testing in the Pacific could then perhaps have been put behind him for a day or two. And perhaps on that occasion he did not really lose his way. The opportunity to parade before the grandstand must have been all too tempting — Yours, etc., M. J. ROBINSON. May 11, 1987.
