Youth hostel The Methven Youth Hostel will be opening soon for the ski season. The hostel is run by the Youth Hostels’ Association of New Zealand and is opened each winter for skiers at Mount Hutt. Other hostels for skiers include Ohakune, near Turoa, Arthur’s Pass, Mount Cook, Wanaka and Queenstown. Life saving Christchurch will host the Sixth Asia Pacific Life
Saving Conference and Competition later this year. Royal Life Saving Society representatives from East and South East Asia and island states in the Indian and South Pacific oceans will take part. The programme includes three days of papers and workshops and an international competition for men’s and women’s teams. Marathon The City of Christ-
church marathon and half-marathon will be held at the end of this month. Starting at 10 a.m. on May 31, the marathon will be held at Q.E.11 Park. The contact person is Lyn Ferris, phone 899477.
