New computer system

A consultant’s interim report on computer facilities at ? the Christchufch City : Council recommends a new system for financial accounting and including recording land data in the present system. The council’s corporate E.D.P. systems officer, Mr Graeme Cox, told councillors yesterday that the report had two main findings.

The first was to investigate a new system for financial accounting, a

separate system to that which the. council used f now. ThC -second > was td develop the’ existing system to include all the data relating to land within the city.

All the spending on the budget for computer systems was aimed at accommodating the land records in the existing system, Mr Cox said. About $1 million would be spent on cdmputersin this financial year if all items survive the budget

process. The Town Clerk, Mr John, Gray, said ah interim report had been sought from the consultants, LielOitte, Haskins and Sells, because of the budget. The final report was well advanced. The aim was to have a system for the Municipal Electricity Department, for the Canterbury Library, and for the Civic Chambers, with "minicomputers” for each other council area.
