Riccarton centre opened

A new childcare centre has opened in Upper Riccarton after the Avonhead Nursery School closed late last year. Vicki and Colin Crequer, who own and run the centre, read of the demise of the nursery school and discovered a big demand for a new centre in the area.

The couple have spent the last three weeks converting a Peer Street house into suitable quarters.

“The house has large play areas and a good backyard, so it is well equipped for the 26 children we can take,” Mrs Crequer said.

Because it will be run privately, the centre is not eligible for any Government assistance.

Mrs Crequer is not concerned about the centre’s prospects. “There has been heaps of local interest and there is always demand for centres among working mothers and mothers looking for a break on shopping days,” she said.
