The young fashion designer, John Juriss, with his sister, Deanna, and the Christchurch retailer, Judith de la Cour, at the launch of “Press fashion” monthly at the Palladium Nite Club. Since winning the “Wool in Fashion” award at the Benson and Hedges Fashion Design Awards, John has left Burnside High School and is attending a part-time pattern drafting course at Christchurch Polytechnic.
Winning the award had nothing to do with his decision to leave school, he says. “I just never wanted to stay at school r- I didn’t like the routine.” As yet he has no definite plans and says he might do a lot of things, including the Wellington Polytechnic’s fashion design course. “In the meantime I’m just going to promote myself a wee bit more. I have a fashion show on May 16 and I’ve sent clothes to Dunedin for another show there.”
